WELL DONE PRABHAT

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Prabhat Jha deserves all compliments for returning a bottle of alcoholic drink sent to him by liquor-baron Vijay Mallaya as Deepawali-gift. Our politicians who do not tire taking name of Mahatma Gandhi, in fact have betrayed Father of Nation when India has now become a land of liquor-rivers rather than of milk-rivers. It may be recalled that Union government had tied up with Vijay Malayya to bring back items used by Mahatma Gandhi from USA. Needless to say Vijay Malayya is a perfect businessman who got enormous publicity for a petty sum of rupees eight crores spent in name of Mahatma Gandhi. But it was nice of Prabhat Jha that he instead of accepting ‘friendly’ gesture, rather bounced back by even considering dragging Vijay Malayya to courts on this account.

ARE PILOTS GODS IN AIR?

The pilots of IC-884 who involved themselves in quarrel with cabin-crew staff should have been immediately arrested for putting lives of passengers at risk. Needless to say Pilots are the most senior staffers in a plane who are supposed to exhibit much maturity while performing heir duty. But in he above case they did the reverse without thinking as to what the result of the quarrel could have been had the plane become uncontrolled. The Pilots could and should have reported the matter to authorities after grounding the plane. It would have been in interest of pilots themselves too, because in present episode cabin-crew staff has now an upper hand even though cabin-crew might have been at fault.

SHAMPOO FROM NATURAL OILS

Presently available shampoos in the market are detergents made of various chemicals and conditioners which do not suit many users. Manufacturers of toiletries in India should revive shampoos made from natural oils like one made from coconut oil that was available till 1970 and marketed by Tata Group of Industries.

ENCOURAGING AYURVEDA

President Pratibha Patil deserves all compliments for her initiative to encourage Ayurveda when she sent an Ayurvedic medicine being given by a practitioner of the system for cancer-treatment, for test at renowned Tata Memorial Cancer Research Institute at Mumbai. Union government should take all necessary steps for propagation and research of hidden wealth of ancient medical science presently lying dumped in Sanskrit literature. Such government-sponsored propagation of Ayurveda will not only be beneficial for countrymen, but will even lure foreigners for Ayurvedic treatment to our country. It may be recalled that Kairali massage has since become a trend not only in Indian five-starred hotels but also in countries abroad giving luring employment to trained Indians in the therapy. Medical-colleges should have special chapters on Ayurveda and Unani systems in normal allopathic degree-courses, apart from providing full-fledged degree-courses in Ayurveda and Unani systems exclusively.

However, it may be noticed that many self-called practitioners of Ayurveda mix harmful steroid-powder in medicines given by them locally as Ayurvedic medicines. Such mixtures though give instant relief in dieses, but cause harm in big way later. Union and state government should encourage real Ayurveda as described in ancient Indian texts, and should guide people to stress on packaged Ayurvedic medicines. Government should set up packing units for Ayurvedic medicines in public-sector.
