JKPL to continue efforts for settling Kashmir issue

In a extra-ordinary meeting of Jammu Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL) at its district office Islamabad (Anantnag Kashmir) presided over by party Acting Chairman and Executive Member APHC, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza a threadbare discussion was held on current situation vis-à-vis Kashmir dispute. The meeting was attended among others by party General Secretary Mohammad Ashraf Ved, District President Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, District Secretary Firdous Ahmad Shah, Nazir Ahmad, Shabir Ahmad Baba.

In the meeting the JKPL leaders unanimously hailed the Mirwaiz’s avowal to carry forward the efforts for resolving the Kashmir dispute through peaceful means. They also condemned the murderous assault on Fazl Haq Qureshi and prayed for his early recovery. According to reports Mukhtar Ahmad Waza said that such spineless, un-Islamic and inhuman acts could not deter Kashmiri leadership’s efforts to settle the Kashmir dispute amicably.

“Some elements for their vested interests resort to acts of cowardice to create chaos and confusion among the people” Waza said adding that the Kashmir dispute could only be settled through talks among Pakistan, India and the Kashmiri leadership.

“The pro-liberation leadership and the people of Kashmir with their unity and political vision would defeat the conspiracies of anti-Kashmir, anti-movement and anti-people elements” he asserted.

The JKPL lauded the role of Fazl Haq Qureshi in the ongoing movement. It deplored that whenever there was some progress towards the resolution of the dispute through peaceful means, certain individuals and agencies got unnerved and resorted to such dastardly acts to thwart the process. “But such attempts will finally be foiled” he hoped.

PDP pledges to take up the issues of Public concern

As a responsive and responsible opposition, PDP is committed to bring to the fore the issues concerning the common masses. Common people of the State are disillusioned as the NC led coalition has miserably failed in addressing the issues of the Public interest.

This was stated by PDP General Secretary Thakur Balbir Singh while addressing a meeting of prominent youth leaders of Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur Districts. The meeting was chaired by Youth President Bashir Assad and also MLC Sayed Asgar Hussain and Abdul Ahad Wani.

Balbir Singh said that the sufferings of the common people of the State have increased manifold since the Omar Abdullah led coalition took the reigns of this trouble torn state. The gap between have’s and have- not’s was widening with every passing day as the government was totally ignorant of the problems, the poor people of this state were facing. PDP leader said that the State was undergoing severe crises due to shortage of essential and scarcity of water and electricity.

The government was hoodwinking the people by tall claims but the ground situation is totally distressing. Below poverty line people were starving due to non-availability of the ration quota. Distribution and transmission system has collapsed in the State and the funds earmarked have either lapsed or misappropriated by the government functionaries.

In his address Bashir Assad urged for reenergizing the basic units of the Party which according to him was in the interest of the general pubic because PDP was the only viable political platform available to strive for the political and economic empowerment of the people of the state. Bashir Assad said it was during PDP regime that effective steps were taken to remove discrimination and to empower different regions and sub-regions.“Before 2002 there were complaints of step motherly treatment and discrimination with the Jammu region but our government initiated many steps to remove these discriminations” Assad said and added PDP gave new direction to the politics of Jammu and Kashmir and put the political problem in a rational context.

Addressing the meeting State Secretary and MLC sayed Asgar Ali alleged that the present government under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister J&K failed on all frontiers in providing basic things to the people of this state.

Terming the policies of the state government anti people and anti youth, Asgar said that the government was totally ignorant of the problems of the people of hilly and far flung areas like Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Poonch and Rajouri.

Among others who spoke on the occasion include Sohit Sharma, Rajinder Manhas, Sukhdev Sharma, Nadeem Khan, Balbir Singh, Deepu chib, Gurdeep Panday, Raj Lalotra, Mannu, Kirpal Singh, Shashi Pal and others.

New measures have boosted heating business

Sale of Gas heaters and Kerosene heaters has shown decline in the valley market after arrival of electric blankets which people believe is easy to handle and is having very less cost price.

An electric blanket is having built-in heating element system through which sleeper maintains a desired temperature even in a cold room. Many consumers prefer electric blankets because their use can reduce home heating costs. The sophisticated temperature controls of modern electric blankets can sense changes in skin and air temperature and adjust settings accordingly. The most advanced model blankets are programmable, so they can pre-warm the bed at a certain time and shut off at a certain hour.

An electric blanket used with a source voltage has a control device connected to the source voltage electric energy in response to a predetermined temperature setting and a heating pad having a heating element arranged to the output of the control device to generate heat.

The heating element includes first core, a first conductive element spirally wound around the first core, a second core arranged in surrounding relation to the first core and the first conductive element and a second conductive element spirally wound around the second core. The first ends of the first and second conductive elements are connected to the output of the control device and the second ends are connected to each other to define a conductive loop.

The heating element further comprises an outer cover that covers the second core and the second conductive element and shields the internal components from external environment.

An extensive mixture of electric heating devices like heat pillars, blowers, halogen heaters, electric blankets, oil regulators are also available in the markets nowadays. The appliances accommodate to all classes of customers and have a price range between Rs 300 to 4000.

“The sale of gas heaters has decreased. There is an increasing demand for electric blankets and halogen heaters. We are selling 10 to 15 blankets daily and customers are also satisfied with theses appliances,” claims owner of a local General Store while talking to Agency India Press (AIP). “The sale of electrical heating appliances has increased by 25 per cent compared to the previous season. However, due to introduction of meters people prefer to use energy efficient devices that use slighter power,” claims yet another trader associated with this business at Lal Chowk, Srinagar.

Despite many plus points to the credit of electric blankets and other appliances these can prove dangerous if left unattended or used by young children or the elderly. There is a high risk of skin burns when used at high temperatures.
