Plot of politics is often repeated
Plot of politics is often repeated, May, 31 speaks volumes about the
political developments in Pakistan. If the writer says that the plot of
politics remains unchanged despite change of governments, he is not
unjustified to say so. Politics in Pakistan has a strange history. People
elect representatives and army deposes them and the drama is repeated again
and again. What will happen tomorrow is not certain to say, but one thing
that is sure to say is that the present government is also heading towards
meeting similar fate. On the issue of establishing democratic system and
strengthening judiciary elections were fought and cobbled a coalition, but
within weeks it broke on the issues on which people’s mandate was obtained.
Though efforts are on to save the coalition government, but if these fail it
would be the usurpers of democracy who would be benefitted.

Cricket and currency
Cricket and currency, May 16-31, is a mind blowing editorial. The proposal
floated by PDP Patron, Mufti Sayeed for use of dual currency in both parts
of the State (Indian administered and Pakistan administered) has attracted
severe criticism. But if seen in right perspective the proposal has hardly
any shady spot. The only drawback is that the issue is sentimental otherwise
it is Pakistan that should resist it and not India whose currency is
stronger than that of Pakistan and it would be Indian currency that
Kashmiris would prefer using. By comparing IPL cricket with Dual Currency
the author has done a fantastic job. His saying that if cricket could narrow
down the impact of hate psyche caused due to partition of India, the dual
currency formula of PDP can also do miracles is equally justified. And if
for a bigger cause some risk is taken it would be worthwhile to take.

PM’s Package, Sop or Lollypop
PM’s Package, Sop or Lollypop, May,31, 2008 reveals the truth about PM’s
package that he announced for those who had to migrate from PoK and Pakistan
in the aftermath of nation’s patrician and subsequent wars between the two
sister countries. The package of Rs. 50 crores was not only humiliating, but
amounted to rubbing salt to injuries of the Refugees that they had received
for no fault of their. Wonder why big men like the PM issue such statements
that have boomeranging tendency! Talking big and doing little are the
chacterstics of hypocrites, but can the PM be placed in that category?
This is a question that only PMs and CMs can answer.

Water crisis in Shivalik belt
Whole of the Shivalik belt running from Lakhan Pur to Poonch is facing
unprecedented water shortage. People are protesting and the goverment has
pressed into service water tankers in places where such service is
available. But, what about those areas where there is no road connectivity?
People are suffering on account this basic need. The World Bank aided water
supply schemes are lying defunct due to short sightedness of engineers and
fall of ground water levels. We dug wells and ignore perennial flowing
rivers and rivulets which has proved disastrous for Shivakik region. Now, as
the water sources have dried or are drying up, the government must gear up
to tap perennial flowing water sources in Shivaliks so that the (drinking)
water needs of people are addressed on a sustained basis.
The other area is rain water harvesting and water conservation. Corporate
houses and NGOs must also come forward and aware the people about the
importance of sanitation, clean water and water borne diseases. The
maintenance of Bowalies, water shed development and protection of forests is
very important in fragile ecology of Shivaliks.

JKPSC, Credibility Confirmed
JKPSC, Credibility Confirmed, May 16-31 is a truth revealing account. Though
I don’t know much about the working of this prime organisation, I can share
your opinion about the incumbent Chairman, Mohammed Shafi Pandit.
When he came to Doda as DC, like so many others I also thought that a crude
joke had been done to this backward district by appointing an unexperienced
lad as its administrative head. But our apprehensions proved wrong and the
young man proved otherwise. By giving this account you have done a good job
because this is the right way to encourage honesty and hard work. Please go
ahead with your bold journalism that has always been needed.

Another pride son of the soil
Another pride son of the soil, April 30 2008, is a good attempt to glorify
the pride of the hilly district that has been the birth place for so many
great men. The effort is appreciable, but still not conclusive. There is a
need to go for further investigation. The author has forgotten some soldiers
who have brought pride not only to the district, but whole of the country.
How can the supreme sacrifice of Nb. Subedar, Chuni Lal of Kailar Bhadarwah
be ignored who attained martyrdom and was decorated with AC, VrC, SM, the
highest army awards for his daredevil performance while fighting enemy. If
it is not a slip of pen then calling Kharat Hussain as brother of Rassa
Javidani is a mistake. He in fact was his son and not his brother.
